Getting Laid Off and eBay

This coming week, I will become a statistic.  I am getting laid off from my job and Friday, March 2nd, is my last day.  While I have a decent severance package coming to me, I only have a one week paycheck coming to me until that severance check comes in at the end of March.  Should I be nervous?  Absolutely!  Should I do what I have to do to bring in money?  You know it!  My house is going to take a big hit and will become less populated of items I no longer need/want.

I started going through my basement and through items I haven't used since I moved into my home 2 1/2 years ago.  I figure, if I haven't used it in that time, I will most likely never use it.  In the past 2 weeks, I sold an older coffee pot I haven't used in ages on eBay.  I also sold an omelet maker that I received as a gift, but, never used.  There are many, many, many more things that I will be putting up over the course of the next week to start bringing some income in.  Even if only enough to pay for gas during the month, I'll be happy with that!  I'll post an update later how much I sold in the month of March.

I also started looking at Goodwill for things to sell.  Found a wonderful vintage creamer and sugar bowl from the early 1900's that I'll be putting up as well.  You really need to have the time to go through Goodwill because you can spend hours looking up what you may have found to see if it is a treasure or not!  And if you aren't sure, then you will spend time looking the item up on Safari, or whatever browser your phone uses.  Oh, yes...  Make sure to have your phone!  You will need it!

Clearance racks.  Hit them!  Brand name clothing tends to do the best, but, you may get lucky if you find a really great deal.  A friend of mine lives by the motto, you earn $5.00 on it?  It's worth it.  I have to agree.  Multiple items that you can earn $5.00 on, it adds up!

These are only a few ways of getting items to put up on eBay to earn money when you find yourself short on cash.  If you need it quickly, you can select the 3-day option to make a quick sale.  They also have 5 and 7 day options as well as a 10 day auction.  The 10 day auction does include a fee.

I use my eBay app for the iPhone to enter my listings.  It's easier when you have a barcode to scan, because it brings up all the information for you, however, if you find the item you are selling, you can click the link to sell one like this.  This will populate the fields as to what the item is and where it belongs.  You can use the picture from your iPhone and just type in the description.  It's SO easy.  I use that more than I do my laptop to do the listings.

Have you been affected by the economy?  Laid off, lost your job for any other reason?  What are you doing to bring money into the household if you haven't been able to find a stable job?  I'd love to hear how everyone is handling this situation!

Avery Office Supplies Review

I recently started back in doing my genealogy research and I like to keep the family branches as organized as I can.  To help me, I am currently using the Avery Heavy Duty Ring Reference Binder to separate the many family branches I have.  To help determine which Binder belongs with which family, I am also using the Avery Custom Binder Spine Inserts.  I put them on the spine of the Ring Binder and label them with the names.  I have my dad's family in one and my mom's family in the other.  To try and be even more organized, I also use a binder tab to separate each limb of my tree.  These Avery Note Tab are pretty cool.  They are not the typical full page tabs.  They can attach to your top page and they can be written on.

Avery NoteTabs-Notes

  • Sold in Packs of 10
  • Flexible organization tool that combines the best of notes, tabs and flags in one.
  • Durable film material with a paper tab overlay.
  • Writable on both tab and body surfaces.

Avery has a great selection of binders to try and keep all of your paperwork organized, in their office supplies section.  When I got the Binder, tabs and binder labels to review from Avery, I examined it to make sure it would be strong enough to hold my many many copies and print outs and I couldn't find it lacking.  Avery is a great household name in office supplies that many offices use.

My favorite part about this binder is that it is one touch.  No more having to try forcing it open on both sides or holding the middle ring to open it.   This binder had one button that you press and it opens all three rings effortlessly.  It is also like the newer binders that the rings lay flat while you only open the top cover.  Now you don't have all those papers hanging on the top of the ring and you have to flatten them.  Yes, I know.  I am easily impressed!  Shoplet.com has these Binders at a great price of $8.97 each, and if you purchase 4 or more, only $8.52.

When you organize your work office space or home office, do you use Binders to keep your paperwork in order?

This weeks Store savings! - Vlog included

So, this week I went to Rite Aid and Acme.  I have to say, for Acme usually being more expensive, they do have some great deals.

video

Sorry the vocal is not going with the image.  I don't know what happened on this one.

I stopped at Rite Aid because they had Lady Speed Sticks on sale, BOGO.  I also had coupons for BOGO.  I ended up getting 12 Speed Sticks FREE!  Scored a fantastic deal on that one!  The girlie and I will definitely go through them.  They also had SoftSoap Handsoap on sale from $3.29 to .97.  That alone is great!  But, I had coupons for $.40 off and since they don't double there, I got 6 bottles at $.57 each.  Fantabulous!  I ended up saving 88% at Rite Aid!  One other personal item at $4.29.  No sale or coupon for that.  I ended up saving 88% here.

At Acme, I got the following:

7 Ken's Salad Dressing - Reg $1.99 or $2.15 marked down to $1.00.  No coupon.
2 Lipton Iced Teas - Reg $1.49 marked to $1.00.  No Coupon
1 Silk Milk - $4.99 - Coupon for Free Carton.  - FREE
1 SoftSoap Body Wash - $4.99 - $.75 Coupon - $3.49 after doubled to $1.50
1 Qt reg milk - $1.65
4 Bxs of Duncan Hines Cake Mix - $2.69 marked to $1.25 - 3Day special $.88. 4 coupons of $.35 off of one.  Got each box for $.18.  Had to do 2 transactions as there was a limit of 2.  One receipt showed I saved 93% which only had 2 of the Duncan Hines Mixes.  The second receipt showed a savings of 58%!

What savings tips would you suggest?  How did you do with your grocery trips this week?  I can't wait to hear!

xoxoxo,
Jacqui

You could live anywhere. Where would it be?

Recently my daughter and I got to talking about moving away from where you grew up.  Not entirely sure where the conversation came from, but, I went with it.  Told her that I would miss her of course, but, I hope when she is old enough, that she does move and get to see different parts of the Country and even overseas.  She asked me if I had considered moving when I was younger.  I told her that I did have the chance to move to Washington to live with my dad when I was 19, but chose not to go.  She had asked why I didn’t and if I regretted it.  I said that her dad asked me not to go and no, I didn’t regret my choice because staying here, brought her to me.

So, it got me thinking.  How many other moms out there had the chance to move where they wanted to?  Who did and who didn't?

Annie from MamaDweeb would have loved to spent some time abroad. She believes that experiencing different cultures makes you a more open-minded person.  Have to agree with this!  Her favorite place?  Italy!  Bellisimo!

Kadi and Stephanie fell in love with Paris, France.  Kadi put it on her "Full Nest List".  You've heard of the Empty Nest right?  Kadi is going with the Full Nest and filling it with plans to do amazing things she couldn't when she was younger and starting her family.  I love that name for a list!  Stephanie was in France as an exchange student and had plans to work for a large corporation over there.  She even had a callback interview with L'Oreal, but had received another offer and never went further with those plans.

Molly loves the Architecture and beautiful gardens, the teas and scones of London!  I have to agree that looking at images from London, I too love the Architecture!

Amy from Freaky Perfect was one of the lucky ones and she moved where she wanted!  She packed up her bags one day and moved to London.  She found a career and her spouse there, which led them down the path to their family.  How things tend to work out in the most fabulous ways!

Andrea, Stephanie, Cecily and Alissa love the big city of New York!  Andrea almost made the decision to move there and 2 weeks after she decided to stay where she was, she met her future husband where she lived at that time.  Talk about timing! Stephanie says the city feels like home.  That's an amazing feeling when you love a place so much that it feels like where you belong.  Alissa spent the summer there while she was in Grad School and loved  every moment she was there!

Melissa, SarahKate, Sarah and Karon would love to have their experiences on the Golden Coast, California!  From San Francisco to San Diego.  Kate lived in San Francisco and met her husband there.  She loves it there and says that it still feels like home!  But, in the end, where the heart is, is home.  Her hubby and kids are her heart, so, she is home no matter where she is.  Melissa was going to pack up her car and move, with an inheritance left to her.  But, she ended up getting married and used those funds for her wedding.  As she, unfortunately, divorce later, she wished for hindsight and used the money for the trip instead!

Kelly from Centsible Life wanted to take the gypsy route, pack up an old VW Van and head West taking photo's along the way, while she was in college.  She wanted to turn that trip into a book.  I think that would have made an amazing one I think!  I like the idea of traveling the roads.  I hope that when I am able to retire, I can pack up an RV and hit the road to see the country.  We are such a big nation!  Would be a sin to not see all of it! Marion from Helicopter-Caterpillar hit the road several times! She and her husband moved from Maryland to Chicago, because they loved the city, to Miami, because they didn't like the cold, (totally understand that reasoning!) and loved the sun, to Pennsylvania after they had the kiddos.

I had quite a few other moms say that they would have loved to move overseas.  Nancy says that it would definitely be easier to move when you don't have children.  You are uprooting them not only from school and friends, but, having the family support system in place could be hard to move from.  Barbara would love teh adventure of moving overseas and possibly riding an Camel in Egypt!  How fun would that be???

Dana loves the Cape Cod, MA area!  Said she spent so much time there for work, she never wanted to leave it :)

Kim would have loved to move to Denver for two reasons.  One, it is very clean out there!  Two, apparently the guys are pretty hot!  Hmmm.  Maybe I should consider a move...  lol.  She was 24 at that time and ended up meeting her future husband, so, she stayed where she was.

Also in Colorado, Jennifer thought about moving to Boulder after College.  But, somehow, plans derailed and she stayed where she was and also met her future husband.  Sooo.  What is it about moving to Colorado that makes people end up meeting their futures???  Going to have to look into that one a bit further, lol.

Wow!  Those are a lot of great places and ideas for trips and places to live!  I'm here on the East Coast and think I may need to hit the road to go to Cape Cod.  Even for a long weekend trip.  That would be pretty cool I think.  My girl is all for car rides!  She was a trooper when we did a road trip to Bull Shoals, AR.  We had a wonderful time there!  It was a 19 hour drive from home, but, worth it to see some of the US :).

I would love to hear from you all!  Where have you lived or would love to live that you were really excited about?  Share your stories!  I would love to hear them!

Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed Review and Giveaway

For all of us pet owners, we know how it is when trying to get the pets into a carrier.  I have had my cat less than a year and had to take her for her vet appointment once so far.  Now, keep in mind, I've never had to put an animal in any kind of carrier.  It was a nightmare!  Took me 25 minutes to get her in because I didn't know how.  I was so upset and she had to have been traumatized.  I have one of those plastic carriers with the hinged door on the front.  My daughter and I tried everything we could think of.  We tried swaddling, bribery, etc.  Finally put the carrier on its side, picked her up to comfort her and slowly moved towards the carrier.  She was not a happy camper when I finally succeeded in getting her in there.  I never want to have to do that again!

Well, I came upon the Sleepypod Luxury Pet Bed and Carrier.  My cat has been using it mainly as a bed (see how comfy she looks?) and I only recently tried to put her in with the cover zipped up.  I started out with treats and picked her up and put her in.  Took me less than 5 minutes.  I LOVED how easy it was to get her in.  She was definitely a little wary as I was moving her towards it, but, there was no scratching and biting like before.  She knew how comfortable it was as a bed, so, I think she was comfortable to try it out.  I let her stay in like that for a minute or two and just talked to her through the mesh top of it.  As I unzipped the top from the bed, she looked around and then jumped out.  I will take that as a positive sign that she didn't bolt the second she had clearance.

From the Sleepypod site:

Most cats and many dogs associate travel with negative experiences such as a trip to the vet or the kennel. Sleepypod allows pets to travel safely in the pampered comfort of their own bed made of luxurious ultra-plush and foam alleviating the stress associated with travel and confinement in hard, plastic boxes with limited visibility.

I definitely agree with this statement.  Using the sleepypod bed that your animal is already used to sleeping in and is comfortable with, will help make travel a little easier I believe.

Check out this video on the options available for the sleepypod:

Celtic Woman CD and DVD Review

We all know who Celtic Woman is, right?  They are a phenomenal all woman band that started back in 2004.  They have a wonderful sound that I believe people around the world love.  The group is not all original members.  The group has changed throughout the years.  While I am all about fan loyalty, I think there is something to be said for change.  While the original band was great, so is the current group.  Just a different type of great!

Celtic Woman is now touring North America and has a large amount of tour dates lined up across the Nation.  Check them out HERE for the one closest to you!  I am going to the one in Philadelphia with Kristina over at Peaches Reviews and we cannot wait!

Check out their great video here:

They are such a talented bunch.  I love the happiness that seems to radiate from them during their performance.  While listening to the CD, I really enjoyed the range of vocals they exhibited.  It was nice to not know what tempo was coming up because of the differences.

Now, hold on to your socks!  One of my readers is going to be a lucky winner!  I am doing a giveaway for a signed CD/DVD.  This is open to anyone in the US and Canada.  We are also doing a giveaway for tickets for one of the Celtic Woman Concerts in Virginia.  Please take a look at the dates and tell me you would love to go to the concert on which date.  A winner for the CD and DVD will be selected via random.org on March 1st.

AND, a winner for the Virginia tickets will be picked on February 17th to allow for time if you selected the February 22nd date.

Bertolli Meal Soup Review

I am going to start out and say, I am not a Soup with noodles and veggies type of person.  I'm all about the smooth soups with almost nothing in them..  Tomato, French Onion, etc.  I was asked to do a review of the new Bertolli Meal Soups.  I had originally thought it was the meals, lol.  However, I decided to do what I make my child do and do the 3 bite rule.  I will eat three bites and call it a day.  Well, take a look at this video and see how that worked out:

As stated, the celery was a bit more crisp than I am used to when it's been cooked, but, it wasn't bad at all. The combination of veggies and chicken and broth was very good and very hearty.  I highly enjoyed the meal and wanted to go back for seconds.  So, I ate some of my daughters since she was still a bit hesitant on it.

If you are looking for a nice filling meal on a cold winter night, I would definitely suggest the Bertolli Meal Soups.  There is a variety of them that you can choose from:

  • Chicken Minestrone
  • Roasted Chicken and Rotini Pasta
  • Tomato Florentine & Tortellini with Chicken
  • Tuscan Style Beef and Vegetables

If you are near an Acme Market, they are on sale this week for $7.99 and there was a coupon in the Sunday Paper last week for $1.00 off.  $6.99 for a meal for 2 is a wonderful price.  The regular price is $9.99, at least in the Mid-Atlantic Region, sorry if it's different elsewhere!

Have you had the chance to try any of these soups?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

You can find Bertolli online at:

Disclaimer: Please be advised that I was provided a coupon for a free soup to review as well as a cash compensation for this sponsored post.  However, please note that all opinions are my own.

This weeks Grocery trip savings - Vlog

Today I went to Acme to get a few groceries and had coupons and sale ad in hand.  I usually clip coupons and let them expire.  Useful right?  lol.  Well, I was talking with one of my best friends over at Mamas Good Deals who is a stay at home mom and determined to stay that way as long as she can, one deal at a time.  She was telling me that in one trip, just in coupons alone, she saved $92.  This does not include sales the store had.  I was flabbergasted.  What was I giving up by letting my coupons expire???  I felt like a moron to be perfectly honest.

Well, no more, I tell you!  Last week I went to the store and got my grocery bill down from $60 and change to $14 and change.  Seeing that 76% savings had me convinced I could do this.  It does take a bit of time with clipping the coupons and going through the ads.  But, with me getting laid off from my current job in just under a months time?  You can bet I will start making the time to do this.  Even if I save 30%, I'll be happy.  That's money that I can put away for other things.  The vlog I'm including here are of the best deals from this trip.  I saved 55% on this trip with coupons and preferred customer savings.

So, today, I went to Acme and the bill came to $79.19 and I was able to get it down to $33.09.  This included the following:

  • 2 DiGiorno Pizza's - Sale 2/$10 and I had a $2 Coupon taking it to 2/$8
  • With the Pizza's came a free container of Edy's Ice Cream. Saving $3
  • 4 Jars of Ragu Spaghetti Sauce - $.99 a jar - 2 $1 coupons making them $.50 a jar
  • 2 Jars of Hellman's Light Mayo - $2.49 a jar - $.40 coupon on 2, doubled to $.80 making them $2.09 each
  • 2 Bottles of Heinz Ketchup - $1.69 a bottle - No coupon
  • 2 boxes of Ronzoni Garden Delights Pasta - $.75 a box
  • 2 boxes of Orville Popup Popcorn boxes BOGO $3.29 - $.75 coupon on 2, doubling to $1.50, making them $1.79 for 1
  • With the BOGO popcorn, deal included 2 2-liter sodas for free. Got Canada Dry and A&W.  So, for $1.79 I got 2 popcorns and 2 2-liters :)
  • Tyson Chicken strips pre-packaged $3.99 marked down to $2
  • Jennie O Ground Turkey $4.99 marked down to $3.79
  • Hot Pockets Nacho Bites $3.99 marked down to $2.99
  • TGI Friday Smoked Chicken appetizer $4.59 marked down to $3.50
I would love to hear about your trips and any tips that you have to a newbie fellow couponer :)

Facing your Fears and Living to tell the Tale

I am involved with a group of lovely ladies that inspire me each and every day.  There are no boundaries to some of our discussions. Yesterday was one of those days.  It started when Lolli over at Better in Bulk stumbled across one of her friends posts on Babble showing beautiful women who had given birth.  Elizabeth over at Party Planning Professor took a different method and showed how Cars 2, made her happy with herself.  Loved this read as well!  All three stories are an inspiration and I hope one or all of them help you to face your fears.  There are many faces that our bellies show.  Some may go back to pre-pregnancy and others are more decorated.  Either way, these looks are our badges of honor.

So, what happened yesterday you ask?  Lolli had posted a picture of her belly.  You can see her post in the first link above.  She had five kiddo's.  Yep!  Five of them!  In this phenomenal group, we had belly shots flying all over!  It was the most beautiful thing!  As someone there said, we housed the next generation of our futures.  I was scared, to be perfectly honest, to bare all and show mine.  I am one of those, not comfortable in my skin.  I've gained, I've lost, I've gained, etc, etc.  It's a never ending battle.  We feel like we have to be these perfect women according to the fashion magazines.  So, I wear baggy clothing and loose pants.  I don't want people looking at me like I've failed a test.  No one but my ex-husband and an ex-boyfriend has seen my postpartum belly.  I even stopped trying to go out on dates because I am afraid of going into a relationship and having anxiety of showing a new person my body.  It may seem silly, but, in my mind, I feel that I am being judged and left lacking.

So, while this was, (as stated by a mom there) a bonding experience and there was no pressure when I expressed my anxiety, I knew what I had to do.  I faced my fear of ridicule for the way I look and bared my belly for all to see.  I will admit that right now, I am not brave enough to post this picture here.  Not that I am ashamed of it, I am just a shy person who really went outside the box and braved one step.  I'm not ready to take another step yet!  But, another mom there gave me permission to show her belly!  This is the blogger from Simple. Green. Organic. Happy.

I hate, hate, hate her!  LOL.  Read this as I adore this woman and would follow her to the ends of the Universe.  She gave multiple births and had the fortune of a fantastic gene pool that bounced her right back.  If you looked at the other posts above, you can see the very diverse bellies of those who gave birth to baby(ies).

The point of this post is, facing your fears and letting others see how beautiful you are, regardless of shape or size.  Be brave and step away from the line that most people follow.  Even if you do it in baby steps like me and about 20 other women, and show yourself to a group of women you know you can trust your life with, like we all did yesterday.

I would love to say a big THANK YOU to my mom's for letting us show who we are, battle scars, badges of honor, proud stretch marks and all.  I love you ladies.

Thank you all for letting me ramble a bit about my fears and insecurities.  I hope this is a help to someone who may feel the same and know they are not the only ones who feel this way.
