This coming week, I will become a statistic. I am getting laid off from my job and Friday, March 2nd, is my last day. While I have a decent severance package coming to me, I only have a one week paycheck coming to me until that severance check comes in at the end of March. Should I be nervous? Absolutely! Should I do what I have to do to bring in money? You know it! My house is going to take a big hit and will become less populated of items I no longer need/want.
I started going through my basement and through items I haven't used since I moved into my home 2 1/2 years ago. I figure, if I haven't used it in that time, I will most likely never use it. In the past 2 weeks, I sold an older coffee pot I haven't used in ages on eBay. I also sold an omelet maker that I received as a gift, but, never used. There are many, many, many more things that I will be putting up over the course of the next week to start bringing some income in. Even if only enough to pay for gas during the month, I'll be happy with that! I'll post an update later how much I sold in the month of March.
I also started looking at Goodwill for things to sell. Found a wonderful vintage creamer and sugar bowl from the early 1900's that I'll be putting up as well. You really need to have the time to go through Goodwill because you can spend hours looking up what you may have found to see if it is a treasure or not! And if you aren't sure, then you will spend time looking the item up on Safari, or whatever browser your phone uses. Oh, yes... Make sure to have your phone! You will need it!
Clearance racks. Hit them! Brand name clothing tends to do the best, but, you may get lucky if you find a really great deal. A friend of mine lives by the motto, you earn $5.00 on it? It's worth it. I have to agree. Multiple items that you can earn $5.00 on, it adds up!
These are only a few ways of getting items to put up on eBay to earn money when you find yourself short on cash. If you need it quickly, you can select the 3-day option to make a quick sale. They also have 5 and 7 day options as well as a 10 day auction. The 10 day auction does include a fee.
I use my eBay app for the iPhone to enter my listings. It's easier when you have a barcode to scan, because it brings up all the information for you, however, if you find the item you are selling, you can click the link to sell one like this. This will populate the fields as to what the item is and where it belongs. You can use the picture from your iPhone and just type in the description. It's SO easy. I use that more than I do my laptop to do the listings.
Have you been affected by the economy? Laid off, lost your job for any other reason? What are you doing to bring money into the household if you haven't been able to find a stable job? I'd love to hear how everyone is handling this situation!

If you have some time on your hands you might want to try Swagbucks (http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/BlueberrySquash) I earn from searching the web & a few other non-time consuming things & redeem for Amazon Gift Cards which can be used for fun things, but I also use Amazon for practical things like laundry detergent too ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Brooke! I am a member of Swagbucks. But haven't found the trick to earning like others have! I'll have to try searching more there.
ReplyDeleteI was laid off over a year ago and let me tell you - between blogging & mystery shopping I haven't done to bad.
ReplyDeleteI get my groceries discounted through Whole Foods. They pay $19 for the shop and up to $26 for anything you buy. And I almost always get paid w/in 2 weeks. The catch - it's a long shop! 1-2 hrs to get through the store and at least 1 hr to type up the report. (you get faster the more you do) I don't look at it as a job - but as heavily discounted high quality groceries. (I always email them whenever I need to go grocery shopping and they email the offer right to me) Appr $19-45 http://www.crg-web.com
Apartment Shops: These are a 15 minutes shop and then the time to fill out of the forms online. The catch - it takes up to 1 month to be paid. www.epmsonline.com Appr $30-35 each
If either ask who referred you pls give them my name: Tina Peterson, Omaha NE
I definitely need to look at your eBay sales. I hold back because I have to ship it all out. My friend uses Craigslist and has really good luck from there - she buys off there to.
